How Marketers Are Honouring The Military This Year

Updated: Nov 17, 2020

Though military support is all year round, the month of November is dedicated for our military in due thanks to Remembrance Day and Veterans Day in Canada and the US.

It was a bit tougher to commemorate in person this year considering the circumstances, but leave it up to the brilliant marketers of our industry to find ways to keep communities engaged with those who sacrifice so much for us nation wide.

Look for the military space as a continuous awesome avenue to support!

For example, the sporting world continued their support for the Forces highlighted by the NFL who since 2011, has raised more than $44 million for military and veteran support organizations.

During weeks 9-11, all clubs will honour the military community through a series of events and virtual activations. ‘Surprise and delight’ moments from current and past NFL stars like this example from Eagles’ Carson Wentz will just be one of many to be unveiled to military members.

Earlier this year, Rocket Mortgage announced a multi-year sponsorship with the NFL to activate around the Super Bowl. The company further committed to the partnership alongside the military to donate $1000 toward the fight to end veteran homelessness for every touchdown scored during the month of November. Rocket Mortgage is a lead supporter to end veteran homelessness in the country.

North of the Border and away from sport, the Royal Canadian Legion partnered up with CHIP Reverse Mortgage to help online visitors create their own poppy virtually to dedicate to a veteran.

The poppy continues to be an enduring symbol and representation of remembrance of the First World War, linked with Armistice Day.

But, for those wanting a traditional poppy to pin as many Canadian know all too well, the Legion partnered with HSBC Bank to create a digital payment system so people can tap a payment enabled card or smartphone to assist with the transaction.

The Royal Canadian Legion rounded off their digital campaign with #PauseToRemember, partnering with video game streamers on Twitch alongside veterans for a moment of silence.

The Royal Canadian Legion was founded by Veterans for Veterans. Advocating for care and benefits for all who served Canada, the Legion also provides representation and assistance to Veterans, including currently serving Canadian Armed Forces, RCMP and families.

Their sole mission is to serve Veterans, including serving military and RCMP members, and their families, to promote Remembrance, and to serve our communities and our country.

The case study of gaming with the military serves as a growing space. With issues transitioning back to civilian life, careers and homelessness, mental health specifically PTSD remains an alarming difficulty. Look for brands to activate in the gaming space as it’s becoming a saving grace for those who serve.

The team here at The Sponsorship Space is proud to salute all veterans, serving and retired both in Canada and the United States. We thank you for your service, courage and commitment to defend our great nations.
